Rina Kent is a GODDESS at dirty talk.
And for the record, I actually read Levi—the older brother—first. So this isn’t me discovering the older brother after meeting Aiden. I started with the older King, and even after seeing what Aiden brings to the table, my preference is still VERY much on the older brother. 😂
Sometimes you need him to take over.
Please and thank you. 😌
INSANE the quotes I saved. INSANE that I already want to reread this book.
꧁The Characters꧂
Aiden King, you are a PROBLEM.
“Being mine isn’t a choice,” he says in that scarily calm tone. “It’s a fucking reality.”
SIR?????
The confidence. The possessiveness. The way this man says things like that as if he’s informing someone about the weather.
Meanwhile, Elsa has her own mess to navigate, and apparently, people in this world cannot simply have a normal conversation without secrets, complicated loyalties, or somebody threatening to lose their entire mind.
Cole showing up and the whole conversation about Knox? The fact that Aiden’s friends are described as the knight and rook protecting their king?
Okay, CHESS PIECES. I SEE THE THEME.
꧁The Romance꧂
I NEED TO TALK ABOUT THE DIRTY TALK AGAIN.
Because Rina Kent clearly understands that sometimes the appeal is not a man giving you a five-paragraph explanation of his feelings.
Sometimes it’s the delivery.
The confidence.
The intensity.
The sheer AUDACITY.
And the way Aiden talks about Elsa? Ma’am. MA’AM.
I saved so many quotes from this book that I genuinely need to go back through my highlights. The fact that I’m already thinking about a reread tells you exactly how much certain scenes stuck with me.
꧁The Plot꧂
There are secrets here, complicated relationships, and questions about what people remember, what they know, and what they’re willing to do to each other.
The conversation about Elsa’s parents and the promise to destroy her? EXCUSE ME???
That is the sort of revelation that makes you want to keep reading because now you need to know how deep the mess goes.
And the memory-related questions? The little pieces of information that may or may not be known by the people involved?
I want answers. Obviously.
꧁Overall꧂
Solid 3 stars!
And yet here I am, already wanting to reread it.
This book had me searching for Rina Kent to see what ELSE she’s got going on. That’s the thing I want readers to know: sometimes an author catches your attention with one particular strength, and suddenly you’re investigating the rest of their catalogue.
Rina Kent has absolutely earned a spot on my list of authors to keep an eye on.
If you enjoy dark romance, possessive men, intense relationship dynamics, and a dirty-talking MMC who knows how to make an impression, give her a look if you haven’t already.
As for me?
I have an unreasonable number of highlights to revisit and an author catalogue to investigate.
Rina, what else you got going on, ma’am? 😏
