Crown Me Dead by Liv Zander
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I can’t believe I read this book
꧁The Characters꧂
We start with the ever pragmatic Gravedigging poor girl who has no problems getting her hands dirty if it means a chance to save her rotting family.
And I do mean literally rotting.
I wish I had more to say about the secondary characters. Or anything to say about the customs and cultures of the kingdom.
But it was very medieval royalty of basically you just wanted to keep track of who killed who.
꧁Worldbuilding꧂
The gothic feel with the castle looking like a tragedy happened at every corner, understaffed, under provided, and us readers underwhelmed by the royal court. Each creative writing decision served to create a dramatic reading ambiance. and it worked. honestly I felt sooo uncomfortable with as a person reading this poor girl’ situation and at the same time begging her to rise above the petty egos.
While we didn’t visit that many physical locations apart from the main Capital but I did love the gothic devastating feel of the castle. The borderline apocalyptic nature and hopelessness of the entire situation made you unsure what goal you were even rooting for. I mean the entire premise was the main heroine marching to death thinking that will be the one to finally solve everything.
꧁The Romance꧂
I could not stop reading this dark romance and I knew who I was rooting for but I had no idea the plot twists that were coming, genuinely. It has been a while since I was this surprised.
I do think it is very impactful knowing who makes you feel safe, who you want to share things with because there are secrets you want to whisper to no one else
and our heroine makes her decision
and the readers are on the edge of their seat the entire time to see the ramification of it
Overall, I cannot recommend this but I also can’t believe how quickly I finished it and then immediately went to the next one. does the finale make the entire book worth it? I DONT KNOW!!!!!! but I finished it.
soo take that as you will
